NOVEMBER: ANTS - Automatic Negative Thoughts

You know that voice in your head, the negative, fearful, and critical one?  The taskmaster and relentlessly striving one? The second-guessing voice, always questioning if what you think and want is the best choice, the right thing, and sure to win approval?  Yes, these are the pesky voices of your ANTs.

Perhaps as you have grown older and wiser, your ANTs have diminished in size and frequency. Perhaps you have a sense of humor about your ANTs, making them less bothersome. But do they ever really go away?

Anne Lamott has a great remedy for ANTs (Stitches, 2013).  Imagine your negative thoughts as big black ants. Then, pinch them away!  Snuff them out.  Pick them off one by one. A good pinch and a buh-bye.
