DECEMBER: A Winter Solstice Ritual
On December 21, the sun travels its shortest path through the sky. While the winter season represents the qualities of stillness, reflection, and receptivity, this season also marks the return to sunlight. The dominant themes of the winter solstice are rebirth and renewal.
The winter solstice is considered the seasonal dark night of the soul. Spiritually, it’s a time to honor both the light and darkness within each of us.
Reflect, release, let go, and set intentions for the new season.
Think about what you would like to let go of.
Take small scraps of paper and write down the things you want to let go of.
When everyone has finished writing, throw the scraps of paper into a yule log fire, transforming darkness into light. As they burn, feel yourself letting those things go.
Set intentions for the new season ahead―speak aloud a thing, idea, habit, or practice that you would like to bring into your life.
